A beautiful valley covered with lush evergreen forests in the eastern Himalayas, Basar is the Headquarters of the Leparada District of the State of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Basar has an estimated population of 30,000. It has countless perennial rivulets originating from the pristine hills that drains into the 3 rivers, fields, jhums field, innumerable species of wildlife and vegetation and is surrounded by rustic tribal villages where one can witness the traditional and cultural heritage of the peace loving Galo tribe- one of the 26 major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh living harmoniously with Nature. Add to it the rich tribal ways of life and cuisines of the people inhabiting the area, Basar serves as a perfect offbeat destination for people seeking a break from the noisy city life. Activities like forest bathing, hiking, camping, site seeing and many other forms of rural, cultural, eco and agritourism overseen by GRK are available at Basar.
Basar is located at an elevation of 650m amsl. During the summers, the maximum temperature rises to about 38°C, while the winter temperature can dip to 1°C at night.
How to reach Basar:
By road, the nearest town in Assam is Silapathar under Dhemaji District, which is 87 Kms away from Basar and 50 kms away from Dibrugarh- the nearest city in the region that has commercial flights and train services operating on a daily basis. A half hour journey from Dibrugarh to Silapathar via Bus or cab is the ideal and cost efficient way to reach Basar, wherefrom one can grab a shared Taxi (prominent locally as Sumo) that runs daily to and pro Basar.

Attention, Arunachal Pradesh is a protected State under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (1873), hence it mandatory for all visitors; foreign as well as domestic, irrespective of their purpose of visit to Arunachal Pradesh to obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP). ILP can be obtained from the respective Deputy Commissioners at all the entry points in Arunachal Pradesh. One can also apply for e-ILP at arunachalilp.com. The possession of an ILP is checked for all the non resident visitors at Likabali outpost, 6 kms from Silapathar.
The roads to Basar meanders through the hills and are quite bumpy since the construction of double lane road to Basar is underway. The administration of Basar is headed by a Deputy Commissioner and a Police Station with a Superintendent of Police as it head. The pincode of the post office at Basar is 791101.
